Noah and the Flood The early chapters of Genesis help us understand how sin entered God’s good world and corrupted it to the point that God had to move to deal with sinful humanity. Sin always damages God’s good will for people.
Noah was six hundred years old when he went into the ark (Genesis 7:6). Surprisingly, when the rain began to fall for forty days straight, his sons Japheth, Shem and Ham were older than most people think. Japheth, his firstborn son, was one hundred years old at the time of the flood (Genesis 5:32)

The Great Flood. Noah wanted to see if the waters had run off the earth, so next he sent a dove out of the ark. But the dove came back too because it did not find a place to stay. Noah sent it out a second time, and it brought back an olive leaf in its beak. So Noah knew that the waters had gone down.
If Noah did warn the world, the world obviously chose to ignore his warnings, because the Bible teaches that the world was taken by surprise when the flood came. The fact that the world was caught off guard by the flood does not prove that Noah never preached concerning the coming judgment.
Noah is described in the Bible as a family man, a father of three, who is about to celebrate his 600th birthday. “In the early chapters of Genesis, people live 800 years, 700 years, 900 years,” said Rabbi Burt Visotzky, a professor of Talmud and Rabbinics at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York.
